Benefits of the da Vinci® System

The da Vinci system is a computer-enhanced surgical instrument that enables our surgeons to perform incredibly precise, minimally invasive procedures that translate into less pain and blood loss and a quicker recovery time.

The da Vinci Surgical System comprises three components:

• The robotic arms that control the surgical instruments
  
• The surgeon's console
  
• A high-definition 3D vision system

The surgeon sits at a console and looks into a binocular eyepiece lens system that provides a three-dimensional and magnified view of the patient's vital organs and structures. The system's "wristed" instruments mimic human hands and wrists, and provide 90 degrees of articulation and seven degrees of freedom, allowing for a greater range of motion than a human hand.

The robotic device is completely under the surgeon's control, and it allows the surgeon to make more precise movements in a smaller area and eliminates hand tremors that can occur in even the steadiest of surgeons' hands.
