Barbara Bishop, M.D.
Barbara Bishop has been a San Carlos resident for 5 years. She has been a family physician and geriatrician in private practice in San Francisco for 25 years. She received her B.S. and M.D. degrees from Northwestern University, and did her family practice residency at the University of San Francisco and San Francisco General Hospital. She is board certified in family practice, geriatrics and medical acupuncture.
She has served as the medical director of the St. Luke's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in San Francisco for the past 12 years. She also is the medical director of the Sutter Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice in San Mateo.
She is very interested in improving the quality of health care available to all residents of the Peninsula, particularly the care of the elderly and the availability of palliative care, the relieving or soothing of the symptoms of a disease or disorder.
She is knowledgeable about complementary healing therapies and served on the board of the Integrative Center for Culture and Healing in San Francisco for six years. She enjoys traveling with her husband, Michael, gardening, and spending time with her two Alaskan malamutes and her two grandchildren.
"It is getting harder and harder to recruit doctors and as we age we want our specialists to be closer to home."
