John G. Buchanan
John G. Buchanan and his wife, Connie, have lived in San Carlos for more than 40 years. He retired in 2003 as an executive with Accenture, Ltd., after working for 33 years as an engineer, sales representative, marketing manager and director for a variety of equipment and computer systems manufacturers, integrators and consulting firms.
John graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and received his bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) and a commission as an Ensign, USN. He served six years active duty in the U.S. Navy as a naval aviator flying attack jet aircraft with the United States 7th Fleet and as a jet flight instructor for the Naval Flight Training Command.
From 1978 to 1987, John served two terms as mayor of San Carlos and was a member of the San Carlos City Council. He has been a member and chairman of the South County Fire Authority and the South Bayside System Authority, president and a member of the San Mateo Regional Planning Committee, and a member of both the San Mateo County Airport Land Use Committee and the San Carlos Senior Citizen's Center Authority.
John was born in Ravenna, Ohio, and grew up in Falls Church, Virginia, and South Bend, Indiana. He and his wife have three children and four grandchildren.
Why are you a member of the community advisory council? What do you see as the benefits of the San Carlos Center?
"The need to revitalize the underutilized space. San Carlos has to look ahead and seize the opportunity for a stable growth industry. San Carlos citizens need to know the facts and the agendas and convey that information. We need to make sure San Carlos staff hear and understand the information."
