In fall 2007, PAMF received all of the necessary city approvals, including unanimous approvals from the San Carlos City Council and Planning Commission, to move forward with the construction of a medical center at 301 Industrial Road. These decisive votes were due in no small part to consistent support for our project in the community. In all, nearly 6,000 San Carlos residents and business owners signed petitions and cards or sent e-mails supporting the PAMF San Carlos Center.

Involvement in Community Events and Sponsorships

In San Carlos, PAMF has been involved in a wide range of educational activities and partnerships to help meet the community’s needs. PAMF has participated in and sponsored a number of events, including the San Carlos Art and Wine Faire, Spring Fling, Summer Concerts at Burton Park, Hometown Days Hot Harvest Nights, the “Walk Our Kids to School” event and the San Carlos/Belmont American Cancer Society Relay for Life event at Carlmont High School.

PAMF also has been a sponsor for local fund-raising events for the San Carlos Senior Center; Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary clubs; Chicken’s Ball; Brittan Acres Elementary School; Youth and Family Enrichment Services (YFES); and other local non-profit organizations. A PAMF manager currently serves on the YFES advisory board. PAMF has also donated to the San Carlos Healthy Cities Project, San Carlos Youth Center, Friends of the San Carlos Senior Center, Friends of the San Carlos Library, San Carlos Little League and the Children’s Fund of San Mateo County.

In addition, PAMF physicians and staff members have volunteered their time at local events, such as Hometown Days, to provide free health care screening clinics and information about skin cancer prevention, detection and management.

Involvement with San Carlos Schools

PAMF has strongly supported local schools through a partnership with the San Carlos Educational Foundation (SCEF) and San Carlos school district. For the past three years, PAMF has partnered with the San Carlos School District and SCEF to present free parent education workshops. This program, which has been attended by more than 1,000 community members, features a series of talks on topics ranging from healthy eating to creating meaningful family time. PAMF was recently honored with the San Carlos School District Superintendent’s Award in recognition of our support of the parent education program and health education for San Carlos children and families.

PAMF also recently donated $1.5 million to the SCEF to set up an endowment that will help support San Carlos schools for years to come. The SCEF donation is intended to be used to support health-related programs such as health education, physical education, nutrition and counseling.

In addition, PAMF has contributed more than $50,000 to the SCEF’s Kid Fund, the organization’s annual drive to raise private and corporate donations for the San Carlos School District and donated computers to San Carlos schools. PAMF physicians have spoken to school children on the health benefits of walking and given health-related talks to San Carlos parents at the Week of the Family events.

PAMF will also employ a half-time registered nurse for a minimum of 10 years to augment school nursing services in San Carlos schools. This period may be extended as mutually agreed upon by PAMF and the San Carlos Superintendent of Schools.

Support for Physical Fitness and Recreational Activities

Through opinion research and PAMF's discussions with members of the community, funding and support for education, and funding for improved athletic fields were identified as priorities. PAMF recently donated $1 million to the City of San Carlos to improve athletic fields available to San Carlos residents. Adequate opportunities for physical fitness and recreational activities are all critical components of a healthy society and speak directly to PAMF's long-established commitment to preventive medicine. PAMF’s contributions to the City, in addition to our ongoing support for community activities and programs in San Carlos, are part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and being an active part of the community for years to come.
