    South Asians are especially at risk for serious medical conditions, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Why are these diseases so common in South Asians? It appears to be due to a combination of genetics and lifestyle. This section describes the major risk factors that lead to heart disease and diabetes in South Asians. Fortunately, a person's risk can be reduced through proper nutrition and exercise.
