    HPV Vaccine Approved for Males

The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil is now approved for both males and females between the ages of nine and 26. The Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has recommended the HPV series for males who "desire to lessen their risk of acquiring genital warts." This is a "permissive" recommendation for males -- compared to the "universal" recommendation for females ages 9 to 26.

Insurance Coverage: All of PAMF's HMO plans cover the vaccine; no prior authorization is needed for males or females in the proper age range. PPO coverage for males may vary by plan. Make sure to check this out before receiving the vaccination.
