Finding Ways Around Your
Food Allergies & Sensitivities
When you have allergies or sensitivities to certain foods and drinks, it can be hard to deal with them. Whether you are hanging out with your friends, eating at school, or even looking for something simple when you are hungry, here are some tips and tricks to cope with your dietary needs.
Eating at Restaurants
Eating out at restaurants can be quite troublesome, especially when its fast food or low variety food marts. The key when going to these places is to find simple but satisfying. That way you can avoid what you cannot eat with wholesome and low ingredient foods, but still be able to eat something that tastes good.
It helps to stay away from things like hamburgers or milkshakes. They can usually contain many ingredients, even when it seems pretty simple. You might never know what is actually in your food.
Another thing that you can do is to see if you can substitute or take out anything that you cannot eat. If you want a hamburger but cannot eat gluten, see if they can swap the bun for lettuce. Simple things like this can make your time eating out a lot more enjoyable.
Many restaurants can also easily accommodate your allergies. Several places have gluten or dairy free menus. All you need to do is ask before you order. Don't be afraid to be picky as well, after all, you are going out to enjoy a nice meal.

School Lunches & Snacks
Another big problem with having food allergies is finding something that you can take with you to places like school. A lot of the time it is difficult because you need something simple, clean, and easy to carry in a backpack.
In times like these, creativity is your best friend. Who says you have to eat a sandwich for lunch? There are so many options out there that will make your life a whole lot easier.
A typical school lunch usually might consist of milk or juice, a sandwich, and some snacks. Why not switch it up a bit and have a lettuce wrap if you are gluten free, or chocolate soy milk if your lactose intolerant?
Either way, some of your creations may not work well in the typical zip lock sandwich bag. Reusable plastic or metal containers can hold almost anything and protect it against getting crushed by your binder. In the end, there are ways that you can enjoy a nice and tasty meal with your friends, you just have to be clever about it.
