Getting Prepared

  • Finding a Place

Finding a Place

Location is everything! Do you really want one of the biggest events of your life to take place, for example, in the cramped confines of the backseat of a car? No way!

The last thing you want to do is to rush this. Find a place that is comfortable for both you and your partner and does not cause you to rush in fear you might get caught. There’s pressure enough with it being the first time. Choose a place that doesn’t put you in jeopardy of punishment (such as in a public place).

Get Ready and Comfortable

Get comfortable with both your body and the birth control/protection method. If you are using a male or female condom, get used to putting it on and how it feels. You can blow up condoms or use them as water balloons to add some humor and comfort with condoms. Get used to each others' bodies. These are steps recommended to take a little more pressure off.

Have Your Method Ready

Make sure you have discussed what method you and your partner wish to use to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and/or pregnancy. Understand and get comfortable with your body and the birth control/STI method you have selected before having sex. Birth control and STI protection methods work best if you use them correctly. Bring water-based lubrication in case you or your partner experiences dryness. It makes the condom easier to use and lowers the chance of it breaking.
