SWEAT is not being offered this summer, 2015.
Listed below are testimonials of previous summer participants.
This is an amazing program that not only taught me about health and medicine, but more about lifestyles and how to can live better. The many activities we did including discussions, eating, and volunteering, were all a great experience. The doctors and helpers were very kind and constructive. I can't wait to come back next year!
-Tabitha Chua, Freshman, Dougherty Valley High School (Danville)
SWEAT was such an enriching experience! I had the opportunity to meet and interact with many enthusiastic students and health professionals from the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. These people inspired me to reflect on my personal well-being, and the opportunities at SWEAT built the foundation for my prospective college interests. I also developed a passion for spreading awareness of mental and physical health to others in my community. Through the experiences at SWEAT (such as conducting community education projects, performing research, and creating web pages for the adolescent health website), I feel that I have been able to make a positive impact on others.
- Kathy Chang, Senior, Mission San Jose High School (Fremont)
During the summer of 2011 I had the amazing opportunity to participate in SWEAT. The program allowed me to meet people of different backgrounds, from different schools, and of different interests. I learned many health related subjects ranging from body image, societal views, to skin care from many specialized professionals! I also had lots of fun doing yoga, eating healthy snacks, and interacting with other participants and mentors!"
-Hien Do, Junior, Mt. Pleasant High School (San Jose)
"It has been a wonderful experience participating in SWEAT this past summer under the guidance of some of the best doctors at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation! Along with doing yoga, eating healthy snacks, and discovering more about how my self image affects my confidence, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to informative lectures from experts and participating in intriguing discussions while learning how to achieve a balanced lifestyle. I am sincerely looking forward to the next SWEAT sessions, as they provide an excellent opportunity to discover more about teen health, and more importantly, to discover myself."
- Christoper Phan, Junior, James Logan High School (Union City)
Through SWEAT, I was able to be fully aware of the current environmental health issues, different perspectives on body structure, different approaches in developing a healthier diet, etc. Most importantly, SWEAT taught me how to be a stronger and healthy teenager.
- Vivian Wu, Junior, James Logan High School (Union City)
"The program was educational in many ways; not only did I learn about how to teach, how to write accessible content, but I learned confidence. It is empowering to be able to provide information to peers, and also for myself. To see that I could take charge and make a difference has helped me continue confidently both in college and beyond. The program also helped to reaffirm my interest in medicine both because of the exposure to health-related topics, and the ability to act as a teacher. "
