Body hair in the pubic region starts to grow when you enter puberty and helps protect the genital area. Shaving the genital region has become more and more popular in the past 20 years, largely due to the rise in internet porn and the more revealing bikini bathing suit styles. The rising popularity of the Brazilian wax (total genital hair removal) at salons and the sale of genital shaving razors at drugstores show how common genital hair removal has become.

Although removing hair from the pubic area seems to be really popular among teenagers, doing so is a personal choice, just like choosing to shave your legs, face or armpits. When deciding to remove pubic hair it is important to consider why you want to and take the necessary steps to make sure you do it safely because you can get an infection, razor burn or other irritation.
