Traveling to the Tropics
Mosquitoes in tropical regions of the world can spread Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and other diseases.
To protect your health, we encourage you to follow mosquito bite prevention tips while traveling to these areas:
- Use insect repellent
- Use air conditioning or window/door screens
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants
- Find more helpful information for travelers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Pregnant or trying to become pregnant?
Viruses such as Zika may put your unborn child at risk. Out of an abundance of caution, the CDC recommends that pregnant women or women trying to become pregnant postpone travel to areas impacted by Zika virus at this time.
If you or your spouse/partner have traveled to Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Cape Verde or Oceania/Pacific Islands at any time during your pregnancy, please tell your Sutter Health doctor about this travel history.
