The Los Gatos Center Urgent Care of Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF) provides high-quality medical care expeditiously and compassionately for both children and adults. Physicians and nurses work closely as a team to care for each patient.
NOTE: There is a scheduled PG&E Power outage on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Los Gatos building will be with limited power, but Urgent Care will remain open with limited services from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
About Our Services
The Los Gatos Center Urgent Care provides prompt, convenient medical care for minor, non-life threatening emergencies. We are available to care for you and your family on a walk-in basis.
We treat patients of all ages and do not require a doctor's referral. Our services are available to:
- Everyone, whether you are a regular patient at PAMF or have never visited us before
- Local area residents and visitors here for business or pleasure
- All patients who do not have a primary care physician

We accept cash, personal checks, Mastercard & Visa, and co-payments from most HMO, PPO and insurance plans, as well as Medicare and Medicare HMOs.
What is urgent care?
Our Urgent Care Center in Los Gatos is staffed by a team of physicians, nurses, medial assistants and patient service representatives who provide care to adults with urgent medical issues. We believe that the relationship between a patient and a primary care physician is very important, but sometimes urgent health care needs arise when your primary care physician is not immediately available.
If you have an urgent medical concern, you may also be able to speak to an advice nurse or be seen in the primary care after-hours clinic. The Urgent Care Center is open daily, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m..
The conditions we treat include:
- Breathing difficulties
- Broken bones and musculoskeletal injuries
- Fever above 100ºF
- Minor to moderate burns, cuts, bleeding, animal bites
- Severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea
- Ear pain, eye problems and sore throats with fever
If you come to the Urgent Care Center and the physician believes your medical condition is serious and may require hospitalization, we may recommend that you be taken to the nearest emergency room, which is:

If you or someone you know have a life-threatening medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
What can I do to prepare for my visit?
- Make sure your contact phone numbers are accurate and that your voicemail box is able to receive messages so that you may be contacted after your visit, if necessary.
- If you believe your illness is serious, please visit us earlier in the day, so that we can take full advantage of our X-ray, Ultrasound, CT and Laboratory departments on your behalf before they close.
- Please bring in all your medication bottles to show us or make a list of the names and doses of your medications.
- If you have a stomach problem, or think you may need surgery, please refrain from eating and drinking.
- You can sign up for My Health Online by visiting the website at myhealthonline.sutterhealth.org/mho. This allows you to view your lab and imaging test results and also allows us to contact you electronically, if necessary.
What happens when I arrive and how long will I wait?
When you arrive at the Urgent Care Center, you will sign in with a patient service representative. Your medical complaint will be assessed, and critically ill or injured patients will be seen first. A nurse will take your vital signs and a brief medial history. A physician will see you as soon as possible in the order that you arrived or based on the urgency of your medical condition. Some patients have appointments so you may see them being called in first. We also share a waiting room with the Pediatric Urgent Care Center, so you may see patients being called in for this separate department.
Most of the patients we see do not have an appointment, so wait times may vary. We understand that your time is valuable and we do our best as a team to provide safe and efficient medical care. Please check our website for wait times which are updated approximately every 15 minutes and appear at the top of this page.
What happens next?
A nurse or medical assistant will call your name when an examination room is available and you will soon be seen by a physician. Up to two visitors are welcome to stay with you in the exam room. If you have questions about what will happen next or reasons for delays you may ask our nurses, medical assistants or patient service representatives for help. You may feel free to use your cell phone in the exam room after the nurse and/or doctor have left the room.
Your physician will discuss your case with you, examine you and determine if any testing is needed. We perform in office tests and X-rays that have a 15-30 minute turn-around time. X-rays are reviewed by your urgent care physician immediately and again by a radiologist within one business day, after which any new findings will be reported to you. If an ultrasound or CT scan is deemed necessary, it will likely take 90 minutes to two hours for the test to be performed and read by a radiologist. Blood tests usually take one to two hours to be completed. Some lab tests such as cultures are finalized within a few days. Breathing treatments, medications and IV fluids are sometimes given, which can take 30 minutes to a few hours.
After your physician gives you discharge and follow-up instructions, you do not need not "check out," unless the reception desk has asked you to do so.
What if I have questions after my visit?
It is important that you fully understand your diagnosis, any treatment given and follow-up instructions before you leave the Urgent Care Center.
