The Cardio-Metabolic Program is a medically designed and supervised weight management program that focuses on stress reduction along with healthy eating and exercise. It is ideal for obese people who have blood pressure, high cholesterol or other cardiovascular problems.
In the Cardio-Metabolic Program, you meet in small groups of eight to 12 people every week for four months. Each session is led by trained health care facilitators, including a doctor, nutritionist and fitness expert. Together, you develop effective stress reduction techniques, as well as healthy eating habits and good exercise regimens.
The CardioMetabolic Program differs from other weight management programs in one key aspect: It focuses on the cultivation of a deeper sense of well-being in life.
In 2012, people who completed the program had increased the distance they could walk briskly by nearly 38 percent. Also, average LDL (bad) cholesterol levels dropped by 18 percent.
People with high triglycerides and high blood sugar levels benefited the most. For those, triglycerides dropped 12 percent, and A1c levels—an indicator of high blood sugar—dropped eight percent.
