Weight Loss Drugs
Weight loss requires complementary strategies. We know that lifestyle modification, diet and exercise can help many people lose weight and keep it off. But sometimes behavioral changes alone aren't enough.
At PAMF, we use weight loss drugs as part of our comprehensive weight management program. Any person interested in weight loss drugs must first enroll in one of the supervised weight loss programs. Weight loss drugs can sometimes help you get started, but you still need to eat healthy foods and exercise to maintain your healthy weight
FDA-approved weight loss drugs mainly work by suppressing appetite. People who may be considered for weight loss drugs have a:
- BMI of 30 or greater (obese), or
- BMI of 27 or greater (overweight), along with at least one weight-related medical condition, such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.
Like any medication, weight loss drugs may cause side effects, therefore we recommend a follow-up visit to the doctor every month for the first three months, and a visit every two to three months thereafter.
