Obesity is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the United States and represents a major public health challenge. Millions of adults are overweight or obese, and this poses a great health risk.

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation’s (PAMF) General Surgery Department has been successfully introducing the gastric bypass surgery weight loss procedure, Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y, for last five years. Combined with diet and a behavior modification program, this procedure has helped our patients achieve sustained weight loss and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Due to increasing and various demands in procedures, we are now offering two additional new procedures:

  • Lap-Band System
  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
These two procedures require patients to participate in programs similar to that of the Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass. Patient will need to meet the National Institutes of Health claim requirements, participate in nutrition consultations and have a psychiatric evaluation. (Please refer to the Before Weight Loss Surgery: Steps to Making Your Decision page for more information about claims requirements.)

Patients need a referral from their primary care physician before they can participate in a program. Please contact PAMF General Surgery Department at 650-853-2985 for more information.
