    Is Bariatric Surgery for You?

Weight loss surgery is a powerful tool to help you manage your weight and health, but surgery by itself is not a cure. You must make significant lifestyle changes in diet and exercise to support the benefits of the surgery.

To be eligible, you must have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40 alone, or a BMI between 35 and 40 (between 30 and 40 for the Allergan LAP-BAND® System) with diseases associated with obesity, such as diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea. Other factors, such as age and lifestyle choices, may also affect your eligibility. Talk with your doctor about whether weight loss surgery is a good option for you.

    Bariatric Surgery Orientations

We hold bariatric surgery orientation meetings at the Palo Alto and Mountain View Centers. These highly informative sessions are led by a bariatric surgeon, registered dietitian and behaviorist to help you evaluate whether this life-changing surgery is appropriate for you.
